Sicamous will welcome some of Canada’s top endurance runners this weekend as the Canadian Backyard Nationals take over Sicamous Public Beach Park.
Hosted by Lewiston Ultra Events, the national championship begins Saturday, Oct. 17, with competitors testing their endurance in a last-runner-standing race.
Runners must complete a 6.7-kilometre loop every hour, returning to the starting line in time for the next lap. Anyone who fails to finish within the hour or start the next loop is eliminated.
The competition continues until only one runner remains, with the final competitor required to complete a victory lap to claim the championship.
“If you are not in the starting chute and do not start when the bell rings, you are disqualified,” the event website states. “When one runner remains, they will complete one last loop, a victory loop.”
The event takes place on Saturday, Oct. 17 at Sicamous Public Beach Park starting at 5 a.m.
