Splatsin Development Corporation (SDC) is continuing its work through Splatsin Civil and Environmental Construction (SCEC) on a critical wastewater infrastructure upgrade for the District of Sicamous.
In an update, SDC said it was recently awarded the project through a competitive bidding process that included several established civil construction firms. SCEC is rehabilitating key infiltration basins at the Sicamous Wastewater Treatment Plant.
SDC said the District of Sicamous wastewater system was originally constructed in 1995 and uses a lagoon treatment process. Treated effluent is directed to infiltration basins, where water naturally filters into the ground rather than being discharged into a river or lake.
“Over the past several years, the infiltration system has experienced significant performance challenges, resulting in reduced capacity and operational concerns for the growing community,” read SDC’s statement.
The project will see aging filtration and drainage materials replaced with new engineered infrastructure to improve the performance and capacity of the wastewater system.
“We’re proud to be contributing to such an important project for the District of Sicamous,” Jeromy Schuetze, Senior Manager of Yucwmenlúcwu’s Civil Construction Division said. “This work will help improve the reliability and effectiveness of the community’s wastewater treatment system for years to come while showcasing the capabilities of our team.”
The project aims to mark an important milestone for Splatsin Civil and Environmental Construction, as they established a partnership dedicated to “delivering civil construction and environmental infrastructure projects throughout the region”.
