Okanagan Indian Band lift evacuation order for east side of Okanagan Lake

The Okanagan Indian Band has rescinded an evacuation order for the east side of Okanagan Lake.

In an update, OKIB said residents of Desert Cove, 32, 34 and 41 Antoine Rd. to Gottfriedson Rd., Spotted Eagle Dr., Hawhola Rd., Smitken Rd. and Wilfred Rd. are no longer under the evacuation order.

Officials said a do-not-consume order remains in place for all addresses served by the OKIB water system.

An evacuation alert remains in place and officials said residents returning home should be prepared to leave if fire conditions change.

Despite the evacuation order being rescinded, OKIB urged residents to prepare in case another order is issued. Residents were advised to fill their vehicles with fuel, keep at least three days’ worth of food and essential supplies on hand and make plans for livestock and other animals.

The Bradley Creek wildfire remained at 2,853 hectares as of 8 a.m. Aug. 8, according to the BC Wildfire Service.
