Campfire ban lifted today in Salmon Arm

Campfires will once again be permitted in Salmon Arm in time for the Labour Day long weekend.

The City of Salmon Arm is lifting its campfire ban at noon Thursday, Sept. 3, in alignment with the BC Wildfire Service, which is rescinding its Category 1 campfire prohibition throughout the Kamloops Fire Centre.

The city said improved conditions have allowed the ban to be lifted, but wildfire risk remains.

Residents are being urged to use caution, never leave campfires unattended and ensure fires are fully extinguished after use.

A City of Salmon Arm permit is required for campfires within city limits. Permits can be purchased at city hall.

Anyone who has a campfire without the required permit or fails to follow permit conditions may be subject to fines.

Category 2 and Category 3 open fires remain prohibited.
