Category 2 and 3 open fire restrictions lifted in Salmon Arm

Salmon Arm’s Category 2 and 3 open fire restrictions have been lifted, in conjunction with the Kamloops Fire Centre.

On Friday, Oct. 2, the City of Salmon Arm made its announcement, reminding residents what is included under each category.

For Category 2, open fires include one pile up to two metres high by three metres wide, up to two piles of that size burning simultaneously, as well as stubble or grass burning over an area .2 hectares and under.

As for Category 3, open fire includes three or more piles up to two metres by three metres wide each, one of more piles exceeding two metres high by three metres wide. Also, one or more windrows up to 200 metres long and 15 metres wide and stubble or grass burning over an area larger than 0.2 hectares.

The City said local burning regulations and permits will still apply.

Officials said that a City of Salmon Arm burning permit must be obtained before burning begins.

Incidental Open Burning permits are $10 and available at City Hall. Incidental Open Burning is permitted Oct. 1 to Oct. 31 on eligible properties of 0.99 acre or larger.

Permits allow dry yard and garden waste originating from the property to be burned, though, leaves and grass are not permitted.
