Alan Harrison excited to lead new councillors and incumbents following election

Alan Harrison has been re-elected three times as the mayor of Salmon Arm following the municipal on Saturday, Oct. 17.

He won by 4,232 votes (78.2 per cent) in comparison so Daniel Bardy who had received 1,082 votes (20 per cent).

Harrison said he waited at home alongside his wife for the results to come in. “We like to do it privately, in kind of quiet setting.”

He added that he is very grateful towards those who voted. “All of the people who voted seen to really take the time to research the backgrounds and positions of the people,” he said. “And I think that was mostly because there were so many people running for council.”

Being re-elected, Harrison said that he is starting his third term off by working on the liquid waste management plant. “I think everybody was pretty well in agreement on that.”

He also noted that he believes there simply room for other items that need to be recognized and dealt with. “The trick is for council to find streams of revenue other than taxpayers increase in order to make those happen,” he said. “Residents recognize that we do a pretty good job here at the City of balancing our budget and spending money as prudently as possible.”

Harrison said that he is excited to welcome new voices and ideas as well.

Scott Syme, Ian Gray, Louise Wallace Richmond, Debbie Cannon, David Gonella and Kari Tolvier Wilkinson were elected as Salmon Arm’s city council.

“We are going to spend the first while listening to each other and fin out how everyone can contribute,” he added. “Everyone is going to be leading on this council, so I see there’s all kinds of leadership potential among the six councillors.”

Overall, Harrison is grateful to the residents of Salmon Arm who casted their vote in this year’s municipal election.
