Salmon Arm city council has confirmed a partnership with the Shuswap Youth Soccer Association to install lights at Blackburn Park’s sports field.
Council approved a memorandum of understanding with the association at its Jan. 12 meeting. The document states that the synthetic turf field — and the broader community that uses it — will benefit from lighting, especially during months when the city’s turf grass field is closed due to weather and shorter daylight hours.
“The Shuswap Youth Soccer Association will be responsible for all procurement, installation, payment and administrative tasks throughout the installation of the lighting. All work must comply with City of Salmon Arm standards, and final acceptance must be granted by the City,” the memorandum reads.
The project is expected to cost about $237,000. The city is contributing $71,400 in unused funding from the original field installation project and $82,000 from Salmon Arm’s 55+ BC Games legacy fund, for a total municipal contribution of $153,400.
