Salmon Arm RCMP note increase in truck theft

Salmon Arm RCMP said they have seen an increase in stolen trucks and believe a person is targeting early 2000’s model pickup trucks in the Shuswap area.

The most recent incident made known to the public was on Jan. 15, when a man reported his white 200 Ford F-350 stolen from his residence on Bolton Rd. Police said all keys were accounted for and no one had permission to use the vehicle.

“There were no video or witnesses,” Cst. Andrew Hodges, spokesperson for the Salmon Arm said.

Police are advising drivers to use a steering wheel lock, tire lock, kill switch, immobilizer and an alarm system.

They also recommend placing a GPS tracking device, or Bluetooth tracker such as an AirTag, Chipolo, SmartTag or Tile in a discreet location inside the vehicle that could potentially assist police if an older model car is stolen.
