Traffic stops, collisions and violent offences rose in Salmon Arm during the final months of 2025, according to the local RCMP detachment’s latest quarterly report to council.
Staff Sgt. Simon Scott presented the October-to-December figures at the City of Salmon Arm’s Feb. 9 meeting, outlining trends affecting residents and drivers in the community.
Police carried out 434 traffic stops in the quarter, including eight cases of prohibited driving and 35 impaired drivers removed from Salmon Arm roads.
Officers also responded to 22 collisions resulting in more than $10,000 in damage, including injury or fatal crashes within the city.
Scott told council red-light cameras could improve enforcement along Highway 1 through the downtown core, where semi-trucks have run red lights. He said the RCMP does not decide whether the cameras are installed.
Throughout the quarter, Salmon Arm RCMP received 1,972 calls, with almost 1,550 of them coming from within the city.
The report stated that property crime has trended downwards, along with domestic assault files, files involving alcohol and drugs and mental health calls.
