Loaded gun seized following traffic stop in Salmon Arm

Salmon Arm RCMP seized a loaded firearm and illegal drugs after arresting two people during a traffic stop, a driver and a passenger. The driver was released while the passenger was held on multiple charges.

On March 11, Salmon Arm RCMP observed “indicators consistent with drug trafficking,” which led to the pair’s arrest. Police said a search of the vehicle after the arrests led to the discovery of a loaded gun. All items were seized as evidence.

Four charges have been approved against the passenger, including failing to comply with an undertaking by possessing a firearm, carrying a firearm without a licence or registration certificate, possessing a restricted firearm while prohibited from doing so and unsafe transport of a firearm.

“This type of activity has no place in our community,” Sgt. Simon Scott, Salmon Arm RCMP detachment commander said. “Illegal drugs and firearms pose a serious risk to the public, and our officers remain committed to holding those responsible accountable. We will continue to take proactive steps to keep Salmon Arm safe.”

The passenger remains in custody and is awaiting a bail hearing.
